PENINSULA BOAT HOUSEResidence M71
After a careful search for a quiet escape from the city, the clients found this unique waterfront property. Nestled among trees on a peninsula, this two-story boat house (‘woonark’) overlooks a beautiful lake.
The original layout was traditional and inward-focused. The design opens up the house completely, connecting interior spaces directly to the surrounding landscape.
A continuous open space runs the full length of the home, with large openings framing the views. Clean lines, inspired by 1960s bungalows, are softened by subtle curves. The kitchen is designed as a simple, monolithic volume, complemented by an integrated cocktail bar.
Because of its modest size, every element is carefully composed. This approach continues below water level, where three bedrooms and a bathroom create an enclosed retreat with limited daylight. Rather than construct additional openings, Studio Asker chose to embrace a restrained atmosphere that feels secure and calming.
Thermo-ash wood defines the interior, used in custom joinery and ceiling slats. Its rich, warm tone - combined with a neutral palet and aged brass details - creates a rich and inviting atmosphere.
