BUNGALOW RETREATResidence S10

Centrally located in the Netherlands, this private residence consists of two wooden bungalows. Originally built in 1964 as a studio home by artist Willem G. van der Hulst. It was designed as a place of calm, surrounded by nature.

Set among trees and water, the property offers an immediate sense of peace -leaving the pace of everyday life behind. A young family reimagined it as a retreat to enjoy outdoor living and time together.

The layout was opened up around the fireplace by removing walls and restructuring the space. This created clear sightlines and panoramic views across the landscape from the entrance through the living area.

Studio Asker transformed the bungalows into a comfortable home with a contemporary Scandinavian cabin feel - closely connected to nature, airy in summer and warm in winter.

A carefully designed brick fireplace anchors the space, with elongated bricks emphasizing the bungalow’s horizontal lines. Long cantilevered windows frame the surroundings like artwork, a subtle nod to the home’s artistic origins.
