Although the main area is not overly large, all the desired features are reduced to the essence and fit together like a piece of a puzzle. This concept continues downstairs, below the water level. The lower level provides space for 3 bedrooms and all the sanitary facilities. Enclosed by the surrounding water, this floor receives daylight only through a few openings in the upper floor. Rather than construct additional openings, Studio Asker chose to adjust the layout of the rooms and create a darker atmosphere that feels secure - a peaceful environment to retreat to.
Obviously, the material of choice throughout the house is thermo-ashwood, which you can find in the custom joinery made by a local craftsman. It is also used as ceiling slats in a circular ceiling system by Carpentier Hardwood Solutions from Belgium. The steam treatment of the ash strengthens the cell structure and gives it a beautiful deep brownish colour. Combined with neutral tones and aged brass details, it creates a warm palette and abundant mood.
