Residence M71
After a diligent search for a place to get away from the city-noises, the clients found the perfect spot. This almost un-native property is nestled among the trees and overlooks a beautiful lake. Located on the water’s edge of a peninsula floats this two-story villa - a boathouse we call a ‘woonark’ in Dutch.
The existing layout was quite traditional and introverted. So from the start this project was all about opening up and align the indoor with the adjacent nature. The open space runs the full length of the house with large openings framing the view. The clean lines are reminiscent of a 1960s bungalow and play with curved elements to soften them. The kitchen appears as a monolithic volume floating above the floor. Simple and linear. Accompanied by a cocktail bar that is integrated into the interior as a piece of furniture.
